About Us

Oak Hill Country Club had its beginning in 1917, when a few golf enthusiasts secured Rose Farm, and during the next three years purchased adjacent property.

The golf course was laid out in the spring of 1919 by Wayne E. Stiles, Golf Architect, Boston, and built under his supervison during that year and 1920.  The course was open for play July 4, 1921, and the Clubhouse officially opened Labor Day of the same year.

The Architect of the Clubhouse was Albert F. Francis, and the Chairman of the Building Committee, Joseph A. Lowe, both of Fitchburg.

In the year 1925, additional land was secured on the eastern side of Oak Hill Road, and during the years of 1926 and 1927, the second nine holes were added, completing the course.  This addition was built under the direction of Donald Ross, Golf Architect, Boston.  The new nine holes were formally opened on July 30, 1927, when Tommy Armour and Johnny Farrell gave an exhibition.  The course record of 70 was established by the latter.
